SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Even Smithfield Foods–with a hog packing plant in Sioux Falls–will be offering meatless meats next month.
Smithfield, which purchased the John Morrell plant in Sioux Falls in 1995, will offer plant-based protein under the Pure Farmland brand. It will include breakfast patties, meatballs, burger patties, and pre-seasoned protein starters.
The products are soy-based, according to Smithfield. They say in their marketing materials that their products are “Grown on the farm. Not grown in a lab.”
Smithfield also says their package will also be more environmentally friendly.
Burger King, Qdoba, and Subway in Sioux Falls and across the nation are offering meatless meat products in their restaurants.
