ABERDEEN, S.D. (KELO.com) –The National Weather Service office in Aberdeen says last Monday’s tornado outbreak in northeast South Dakota also included a weak rope tornado that was on the ground just west of Watertown.
The tornado was estimated to have peak winds of 70 miles per hour. It was on the ground for about 2 ½ miles.
It moved in a northeasterly direction from south of Prairie Winds Golf Club to just southwest of the airport.
The Weather Service says the tornado was on the ground for about four minutes and was only about 20 yards wide. It tracked across farm fields and did not result in any damage.
That same afternoon and evening, tornadoes were reported near Thomas in Hamlin County, and north of Webster and Bristol in Day County.
