VERMILLION, SD, (KELO.com)–The University of South Dakota reports a slight one percent dip in student headcount this fall.
This fall, USD enrolled 9,920 students. Last year in 2018, fall enrollment was 10,066.
USD President Sheila Gestring says part of the reason for the decline is because of a change years ago in the number of credit hours required to earn a bachelors degree. She says the school is graduating students faster than in the past.
USD Vice President of Enrollment, Marketing and University Relations Scott Pohlson says, “We anticipated a slight decline in our enrollment this fall due to our consistent correlation with South Dakota high school graduates.”
Pohlson says despite the small decline, he is pleased to see USD above the system average.
