ELK POINT, S.D. (KELO.com) — The 2019 harvest grinds on in what has been the latest and slowest many farmers in the region have ever seen.
Elk Point area farmer Doug Hanson says they just finished soybeans this week.
He says some of the delay was due to the lagging maturity of the soybeans after a late plant. He says the crops did finish.
Hanson says yields are running just five bushels per acre below his farm average, which he considers a victory.
USDA’s crop report as of Sunday showed soybean harvest in South Dakota was 58 percent complete, behind the five year average of ninety percent. Only fourteen percent of corn had been harvested compared to the normal of 46 percent.
