RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO.com) — Rapid City police responded to a burglary in progress this afternoon. Rapid City Chief of Police, Don Hedrick, said the homeowner believed the house had been broken into and someone was inside. Six officers entered at the owners request where they encountered a man in one of the rooms. He was pointing a gun at them. Two officers fired at the individual, causing fatal wounds. The Pennington County Sheriff’s office was called in to assist. The South Dakota DCI is now leading the investigation.
