SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Mayor Paul TenHaken says human error is what caused only some of the city’s warning sirens to sound for the Sioux Falls tornado.
“We already have some plans in place to rectify that going forward. The system is not broken. It works absolutely fine. But there is a human aspect to operating a system, and that’s what happened.”
Sioux Falls has a 77-horn system, but only some of the sirens activated as the massive storm approached.
TenHaken says that someone in the dispatch center mistakenly fired off the sirens for only the southeast part of the city.
