SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Late Tuesday night’s tornadoes and winds gave way to rain and flooding yesterday and today in the Sioux Falls area.
Officials say the flooding will likely continue through the weekend and into next week.
Sioux Falls’ stormwater manager says Skunk Creek should crest today.
Andy Berg says the Big Sioux River north of Sioux Falls at Dell Rapids has hit historic highs.
Flows are being diverted around the city.
He also expects the Lotta neighborhood near Tomar Creek to be ok.
That area flooded in March from the Big Sioux River.
Minnehaha County’s emergency manager says do not drive around flooded roads that have barricades.
Jason Gearman says the county has already had to rescue someone north of Sioux Falls and another in Dell Rapids
He says they were doing “stupid stuff.”
Gearman also says the county is starting to run out of barricades.
Travel east to west across northern Minnehaha County will be difficult over the next few days because of flooding from the Big Sioux.
With flooding from Skunk Creek and the Big Sioux River, a number of parks are closed in Sioux Falls.
Closed parks include Legacy, Yankton Trail, Spencer, Pasley, Tuthill, Rotary, and Cherry Rock.
Parts of the bike trail are also closed.
