SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com)– The severe storms earlier this week caused significant destruction and flooding in the City of Sioux Falls. Severe flooding was an issue this past summer in South Dakota and that has not changed.
All over Sioux Falls, places that are usually heavily populated with foot-traffic, are now underwater. Other towns in the State like Mitchell and Madison, are also experiencing the mass floods.
The River Walk is now less “walk” and more “river.” The Big Sioux has spilled up and over the cement barriers along the River Walk and onto the bike path.
North Cliff Avenue in Sioux Falls is seeing the brunt end of the flooding. Most parts of North Cliff are closed because the road is submerged under feet of water.
From the Lookout point at the Amidon statue, the view shows what looks like a giant lake in the middle of Sioux Falls.
Barricades have been enforced to keep people from driving on roads that are now underwater. Some businesses are closed because people are unable to get to them. Homeowners are dealing with water damage and flooded basements.
Travel in Sioux Falls is minimal, but cleanup efforts around the City are in effect.
