SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — First the spring flood came. Then the summer flood.
Now, while dealing with the current flooding in northern Minnehaha County, county officials are now preparing for expected flooding next spring.
“The roads that were fixed in Minnehaha County, a lot of them are going to be destroyed again,” said Jason Gearman, Minnehaha County Emergency Manager. “We have to do a preliminary damage assessment, to see if we meet the dollar threshold like we did in the spring.”.
Gearman says the long-term forecast is not encouraging.
“There are some predictions out there that there will be a large amount of snowfall this winter,” Gearman said. “It’s, in turn, going to cause flooding next spring.”
Gearman says they can’t get out and do assessments yet on road and bridges until floodwaters recede.
