SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A ballpark estimate of $1million is how much damage the tornado-laced storms last month cost the City of Sioux Falls.
The city’s estimate is part of a storm disaster declaration being sent to Governor Kristi Noem by the Minnehaha County Commission. The Lincoln County Commission sent a similar declaration to Pierre last week.
City Emergency Manager Regan Smith says September’s weather wasn’t as costly as previous storms.
“Yeah, it’s going to be less than the March flooding event and significantly less than the 2013 ice storm.”
Smith says an estimated 250 structures were damaged and about 350 homes were damaged by fallen trees.
The City’s cost estimate does not include damage to private businesses and homes.
