SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls City Council has authorized a deal to get the land for a new police and fire training center for the city.
It’s over 100 acres in the northeast part of town. The deal involves a land swap and a one-time payment of $2.6 million.
There’s still a big hurdle.
Building the new training center itself will require a bond issue to the tune of $30 million.
The existing facility near Joe Foss Field was built in 1977 and renovating it doesn’t make sense to the experts, so both the police and fire departments are urging construction of the new center.
