SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls School District has held an active shooter drill at Eugene Field Elementary.
The District’s Carly Uthe says dozens of fourth graders – with parental permission- were bused to the Convention Center away from the make-believe emergency, just like the real thing. But for the children, it was made to be fun.
“There was no intention to scare the kids or anything like that. It was a very light-hearted overall day.”
The busing of the kids was to reunify them with parents at the convention center. It went well, says Uthe.
The School District hopes a real shooter situation never ever happens, but wants to make sure all it’s emergency procedures work. Uthe says they do.
The police and fire/rescue were also involved in the drill.
