SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — After years of waiting and false starts, the downtown railyard property in Sioux Falls may be back on track again.
A mixed-use project on part of the prime ten-acre redevelopment site is proposed by Pendar Properties.
City Council gets its first briefing at Tuesday’s informational meeting at 4:30 p.m.
Some are calling this new proposal ‘Cherapa Place II’ because the same developer, Jeff Scherschligt, was responsible for Cherapa Place downtown. But Scherschligt says the official name is “Railyard Flats.”
The City purchased the prime acreage from the railroad, amid much fanfare, in 2015. It’s been frustrating and slow-going ever since.
Railyard Flats may act as a catalyst for other projects.
“It will be a great addition and it will be a nice start to kinda redeveloping that rail yard switchland.” says Scherschligt.
