UPDATE: The person rescued by boat from the Big Sioux River has died.
Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says it looks like a suicide. The person was pronounced dead when he was taken to an ambulance.
The victim had apparently jumped off the pedestrian bridge over the spillway on the diversion channel in northern Sioux Falls.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Fire Rescue pulls a person out of the Big Sioux River diversion channel over a mile from where he fell in.
The rescue happened just before midnight last night.
Authorities think the person fell in at the walking bridge over the diversion dam spillway just south of the prison.
Officials did not give any details about the victim or their condition.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: On October 14th, 2019, at approximately 11:46 p.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of a water rescue at 1600 N. Riverside Ave. The initial reports were that a person had entered the river at the pedestrian bridge over the spillway. Upon fire rescue’s arrival, crews began searching the water from shore and by boat.
At approximately 1:20 a.m. the person was located almost one and one fourth miles downstream from where they had reportedly entered the river. The person was removed from the water by fire rescue crews via boat and transferred to the ambulance for medical treatment.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with two fire engines, two Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) units that specialize in water rescue, and an incident commander. Also assisting in the rescue effort was Sioux Falls Police, Metro Communications, PCLS ambulance, and SD GF&P.
