GARRETSON, S.D. (KELO.com) — The National Weather Service held a four-state Integrated Warning Team workshop Thursday in preparation for winter.
Warning coordination meteorologist Peter Rogers says it included representatives from emergency management, healthcare, transportation, schools, and news media.
Topics included a review of the April blizzard and ice storm, using probabilities in snowfall forecasts, plus social media risk and crisis communication.
Rogers says while social media is important in relaying critical weather information there are some pitfalls.
The Eros Data Center near Garretson hosted the gathering.
