SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) –Three Sioux Falls firefighters have been sent to Northern California to help fight the big wildfires.
Batallion Chief Michael Kooperman says they know how to handle themselves in such terrain.
“Wildland certified. So, that’s the type of resource they were looking for, those personnel that have experience with that type event.”
The department has a volunteer list for emergency assignments in other jurisdictions.
Kooperman says that last year it seemed that Sioux Falls volunteers were getting deployed somewhere all the time, but this year, it’s been relatively slow.
The three firefighters are expected to stay in California for about two weeks.
