SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — After the tornadoes that hit Sioux Falls in September, the city is looking for some extra money to pay for the clean-up.
Finance director Shawn Pritchett asked the council to pull $1.8 million from the city’s general fund to pay for things like removing tree stumps, repairing traffic signals and fixing up parks in the aftermath of the storm.
Pritchett said some of that money will probably be reimbursed by FEMA, but it’s too soon to tell how much.
The extra expense will also be partially offset by rising sales tax revenue, which is growing at its fastest rate in years.
Pritchett also requested the city buy four new pumps to help with drainage the next time a storm hits Sioux Falls.
