SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls City Councilor Theresa Stehly has been a consistent critic of the downtown parking ramp project, and that didn’t change at Tuesday night’s council session.
“We have a murky situation, and the citizens, I’m afraid are going to get the short end of the stick on this one,” said Stehly before she cast the lone vote against approving an extra $1.5 million to get the ramp finished. The money was approved 6-1 by the council.
Stehly has been skeptical of the project ever since it was announced as a major mixed-use development called Village on the River. The project has since shed the hotel, restaurants and other retail. The parking ramp remains.
“It was murky back then and it’s getting worse and I don’t think we’re done with it,” warned Stehly.
The TenHaken Administration says the extra money is critical to complete the project and to protect the multi-million dollar investment already made.
