PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Gov. Kristi Noem tells “Fox and Friends” this morning that the state’s slogan, “Meth. We’re on it.” is supposed to be provocative.
She shares a personal experience.
“I was in a restaurant a couple of weeks ago, and a woman walks into this restaurant,” Noem said. “She was high on meth, she had a couple little kiddos with her that obviously weren’t being taken care of, and everyone in that restaurant pretended not to see her.”
The state hired a Minnesota ad agency to develop the campaign at a cost of about $1.3 million.
“We wanted people to start talking about meth in a way that they never have before,” Noem said. “We need every single person in South Dakota to get on this challenge.”
Noem said when she became governor earlier this year, she would tackle difficult challenges like meth.
“We have double the national average of middle schoolers in our state who are using meth,” she said. “It is impacting every family, it is clogging our courts and our jails, it’s costing the state hundreds of millions of dollars.”
