YANKTON, S.D. (KELO.com) — Authorities are looking for a Yankton inmate who escaped this afternoon in a state of South Dakota pickup truck.
Corrections officials say Richard Barela, 28, left his worksite in Yankton without authorization.
Barela is serving a 10-year sentence with 4 years suspended for possession of a controlled substance out of Hughes County.

YANKTON, S.D.- Inmate Richard Barela has been placed on escape status.
Barela left his community service work site in Yankton this afternoon without authorization. He took a 2007 silver Chevy ½ ton pickup with a State of South Dakota license plate that reads CH 331 from the work site.
Barela, age 28, is a Hispanic male. He is 5-feet-11 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
Barela is serving a 10-year sentence with 4 years suspended for possession of a controlled substance out of Hughes County.
