PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The official start of the South Dakota State Legislature is still a day away but lawmakers were already busy Monday working on several fronts.
Members of the Joint Appropriations Committee convene today at 10 a.m. at the Capitol to begin their work on the state budget.
Committee members have been discussing the numbers since Governor Noem’s State of the State address last month and wanted a head start on this year’s 37 scheduled days.
The Government Operations and Audit Committee will continue its review of various state agencies while the Legislature’s Executive Board will convene later in the afternoon to discuss the upcoming replacement of LRC Director Jason Hancock.
Hancock has announced he will be leaving at the end of the session to take a position as Deputy Secretary of State in Idaho.
The 95th Session of the South Dakota State Legislature officially begins Tuesday in Pierre and will run for 37 scheduled days this year. The last working day for lawmakers is scheduled for March 12 with the 37th day, March 30th, set aside to take up any vetos handed down by the Governor’s Office.
