SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Census Bureau is gearing up for the ten-year count across the country and in South Dakota.
Blanca Ramirez-Salazar is the Partnership Coordinator for the Upper Plains states. She said the bureau is still looking to hire “about 1,200” part-time employees to help with the count.
The census is a monumental effort, one Ramirez-Salazar said people can make easier by filling out their census questionnaire and emailing it back on time.
Ramirez-Salazar says the bureau’s first in-person push will be on college campuses.
“We believe we’re going to struggle to have them complete their questionnaire before they move or before classes are out of session,” she said.
Ramirez-Salazar said they will also make special efforts to count people in rural areas and Indian reservations. She said the groundwork is scheduled to wrap up by August first.
