SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota flu season is getting deadlier.
State Epidemiologist Josh Clayton says there have been two more fatal cases, bringing to six the number of people who have died in South Dakota this flu season.
And Clayton tells Kelo Radio’s It’s Your Business Show with Bill Zortman that there have been 38 new confirmed flu cases in the last week alone.
Then the flu season gets personal on the Zortman Show when Kelo Radio’s Liz Ryan shares the story of her father being hospitalized with the flu. She says her stepmother texted her to say they were at the ER after her dad had trouble breathing.
“They really don’t know when he will be able to go home. They’re trying to get his vitals stable, but his heart rate is elevated and his oxygen is low,” explains Liz as Bill and Dr. Clayton listen. Dr. Clayton says Liz’s dad will be included on next week’s list of confirmed cases.
If you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet, this story gives you the fresh impetus to get it done.
