PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem has announced the first South Dakota Governors Student Art Competition to encourage the talents of young people across the state.
She says artists have given us Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, the Dignity Statue, and the Arc of Dreams in Sioux Falls.
“So South Dakota is a canvas that inspires creativity.”
Noem was joined at the announcement by state leaders, and by young artists.
Sioux Falls 7th Grader, Bria Neff says she was only seven years old when she entered and won her first art contest.
“Art gives children the gift of imagination that will color their world with possibilities.”
This spring, the South Dakota Arts Council will distribute program information to schools throughout the state, and submissions will be accepted in the fall. More information on logistics and criteria will be announced in the coming months.
