SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The new Sioux Falls Bishop, Donald DeGrood, has been installed in solemn, centuries-old ceremonies at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
Bishop DeGrood on Thursday received the tall miter headwear and the hand-carved wooden crozier, two major symbols of his office, to lead all the Catholic faithful in eastern South Dakota.
The pews of the historic cathedral were filled with invited guests, members of religious groups and the laity, and by priests in white vestments, representing parishes throughout the diocese.
DeGrood, a one-time Minnesota farm boy, replaces Paul Swain, who served the diocese as Bishop for 13 years.
DeGrood is the ninth bishop to head the Diocese of Sioux Falls.
