PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The hemp bill keeps sailing along in Pierre.
Already approved by the House, it’s now been approved by a State Senate committee.
So now on to a vote in the full Senate, possibly Wednesday.
Governor Kristi Noem vetoed last year’s legal hemp bill but seems to be on board, at least mostly on board, with this new bill. It apparently meets most of the “guardrails” that she demanded before she would consider supporting it.
Many farm groups want industrial hemp as a cash crop, as it is in other states. The USDA has approved new regulations.
Noem has argued in the past that legal hemp could lead to legal marijuana.
