SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Tied for KELO.com News’ second most impactful story of 2019 is crime in Sioux Falls, and how it’s growing and becoming more violent.
Although the number of violent crimes decreased in the state for the first time in five years, the city of Sioux Falls tells a different story.
There were four armed robberies in the city in a week’s time.
Two fatal stabbings occurred, one on South Cliff and one South Louise.
A Neighborhood Summit was held again after a number of years concerning growing neighborhood crime.
Drug and violent crimes by juveniles continue to rise and officials see few signs that the arrests will fall anytime soon.
The South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police Vice President Tim Doyle says some of these kids are really young.
“Thirteen and fourteen-year-olds stealing cars, getting in pursuits with us. We’re seeing an increase in violence in schools with assaults,” says Doyle.
And the Minnehaha County Commission approved a new 92 million dollar budget in part to help fight rising crime.
