SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Yes, it’s winter and it shouldn’t be a big surprise.
But still.
The National Weather Service is placing the Sioux Falls area under a Wind Chill Advisory from 9 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. The NWS says to expect wind chills in the 25 to 30 below range.
“We’ve got a couple of periods of wind coming up,” said NWS forecaster Amy Parkin. “Even Thursday night in the Friday morning, we get kind of a strong south wind that that’ll blow the stuff around. And then as this system comes through, we’ll see when it shifts around more to the north, northwest and still be pretty strong on the backside of it.”
That’s the “good” news.
The worse news is the Sioux Falls area will be under a Winter Storm Watch Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. The NWS predicts 3-5 inches of snow accompanied by gusts up to 45 mph. They also say to expect a light glaze of ice.
“The front of that storm is going to go over Iowa and Minnesota, but it does look like the western edge is going catch the eastern part of the Dakotas as well,” Parkin said. “The I-29 corridor and eastward will probably be the most impacted. Were looking upwards of three to five, maybe a few areas pushing six or seven inches of snow.”
Anyway, expect to be asked, “Is it cold enough for you?” numerous times over the next few days.
