PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem has signed into law what some call the ‘Beer Making 101’ bill.
South Dakota colleges and technical schools will now be allowed to offer courses in beer and winemaking and in liquor distilling. Of course, the students would have to be over 21.
Craft brewing is bigger than ever in South Dakota and surrounding states. The new law, in part, is seen as a response to that popularity.
The alcohol produced in class could only be consumed as part of the class. It could not be sold or donated.
The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has a beer-making course, but it’s been held off-campus.
