SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — We couldn’t ask for better early March weather. Sunny and a high of 64 today and then a high of 68 on Sunday.
But if you’ve lived in the upper Midwest for very long, you’re probably bracing yourself for more possible winter weather in March. Or in April. Or, even in May.
On April 18, 2018, Sioux Falls received 6.2 inches of snowfall.
On April 28, 1994, the clouds dumped 10.5 inches of snow on South Dakota’s largest city.
And don’t forget about our May dustings. Two inches of white powder landed on Soo Foo on May 12, 1943.
And as recently as May 1, 2017, there were 2.2 inches that fell in the city, and 1.5 inches fell on May 1, 2013.
But, at least we aren’t in the Black Hills. Sometimes they get snow in June. Deerfield, South Dakota received 8 inches of snow on June 18, 1973.
Now that we’ve given you all this bad news about past history, here’s the good news…
The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center foresees above-average temperatures throughout March, and Accuweather predicts relatively warm weather from now through the end of May.
The only snow in the foreseeable future (which, let’s face it, really isn’t that long) will be little dustings.
