SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — All Catholics have a sacred obligation to attend Sunday Mass, unless they have a just cause not to.
Covid-19 has just become a just cause in South Dakota.
“The two diocese together have decided that the obligation to attend Mass as been suspended, at least for the time being,” says Spokesman Jerry Klein with the Diocese of Sioux Falls.
The Diocese of Sioux Falls covers east river South Dakota. The Diocese of Rapid City covers west river.
This may be unprecedented. Klein says he can’t remember this kind of dispensation being given before, and he’s been going Mass for decades.
The special dispensation doesn’t mean you can’t go to Mass. It just means you don’t have to go.
