SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota’s public universities will move to online-only classes until at least April 6, the state Board of Regents announced Monday.
The decision is meant to protect students, faculty and staff amid the coronavirus pandemic. The board said it will reevaluate the situation on March 27 and will announce any necessary changes to the schedule then.
South Dakota State University spokesperson Mike Lockrem says the university is keeping in touch with students about the changes.
“We’ve had some students come back with some really good questions,” Lockrem said. “We’re working through the process to keep them informed.”
South Dakota’s public universities are currently on spring break, which the Board of Regents had extended by one week. They were due back for classes on March 23.
Lockrem said students that went home for spring break are encouraged to stay home while acknowledging “that may not be feasible for everybody.”
SDSU will keep a limited number of dorms and dining halls open for students that need to stay on campus.
