PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Pierre Mayor Steve Harding says he doesn’t plan to close private businesses in response to the coronavirus pandemic at this time.
Harding deferred to Gov. Kristi Noem’s executive order encouraging businesses like restaurants, bars and gyms to modify their business practices to limit crowds.
The mayor said individual citizens should continue to avoid gathering in groups of 10 or more per guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Local governments in South Dakota appear to be split on whether to force businesses to close or move to take-out only during the pandemic.
