YANKTON, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Yankton City Commission, during a special meeting Friday, voted to rescind the emergency health ordinance that had limited public gatherings and shut down a number of businesses.
Commissioner Amy Miner says she wanted to see the closings stay in place for just a while longer.
The meeting was scheduled after Governor Kristi Noem released her “Back to Normal” plan which outlined steps local governments could take to ease restrictions.
Commissioner Mason Schramm says local businesses can make the best decisions on reopening.
Mayor Nathan Johnson says social distancing is still necessary.
The commission voted seven to two to roll back the restrictions.
