Iowa checked in at No. 19 in the USA Today preseason coaches poll, while Nebraska received the most votes of teams that did not crack the Top 25.
Minnesota received a single vote.
The Big 10 led all conferences with seven teams among the Top 25:
Ohio State (5), Michigan (7), Penn State (14), Wisconsin (17), Iowa (19), Michigan State (20), and Northwestern (25).
The Hawkeyes are coming off a 9-4 season which included a New Year’s Day bowl victory and a 31-28 win over Nebraska on a last-second field goal.
The Huskers were 4-8 in Scott Frost’s first season, but won four of their last six games and is the Big 10 media’s preseason favorite to with Big Ten West division, just barely edging Iowa in the voting.
The Gophers finished 7-6 but won three of their final four contests, and were the first Minnesota team ever to beat Wisconsin and win a bowl game in the same season.
