A week ago, it appeared one of the Minnesota Twins’ most valuable players would be back by next week, just in time for the stretch run and playoffs.
On Tuesday, The Pioneer Press reported pain in the centerfielder’s left shoulder has put his rehab and return on hold. The publication’s reporter in Chicago, Betsy Helfand, then tweeted “discomfort might be the more proper term here. He felt it in Sunday’s game and again during (batting practice) today. MRI showed no further structural damage.”
Buxton was in low-A Cedar Rapids attempting to return from a subluxated shoulder on his left (non-throwing) arm.
Buxton will join the Twins in Chicago for further evaluation, according to Dan Hayes of The Athletic. Hayes also reported that an MRI showed no structural damage.
The 25-year-old has put together his best season as a major leaguer, but has missed 43 games in yet another season with chunks of time spent on the injury list.
