Sioux Falls native Matt Farniok is one of four University of Nebraska football captains for 2019, as voted on by his teammates.
The former South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year from Sioux Falls Washington joins sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez as the only two offensive captains.
Farniok, a junior, will start at right tackle for NU in Saturday’s season opener at home against South Alabama (ESPN, 11 a.m.). His brother Will, a redshirt frehsman, is listed as the No. 2 center behind redshirt freshman Cameron Jurgens.
Matt Franiok started at right tackle in all 12 games last season as a sophomore, following his freshman season in which he appeared in seven games and started four.
The Huskers averaged 456.2 yards of total offense per game in 2018 – the program’s highest total in six years – while producing more than 560 yards of offense in four games. Farniok and the offensive line helped Nebraska post its most yards (659 against Minnesota) and highest point total (53 against Illinois) in a Big Ten Conference game since the Huskers joined the league in 2011.
Defensive lineman Darrion Daniels and senior linebacker Mohamed Berry were the two defensive captains for Nebraska.
