Four weeks after cutting former first-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell, the Minnesota Vikings are re-signing the wide receiver.
The team needs depth at that spot after Chad Beebe tore ligaments in his ankle in Sunday’s 34-14 win over Oakland and recently-signed josh Doctson was placed on injury reserve early in the season. Beebe is expected to miss several games.
Minnesota currently has only three healthy receivers: Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, and Olabisi Johnson. The Vikings recently worked out three free agents: Jordan Matthews, most recently with the Eagles, Tanner Gentry (Bears)and Deontay Burnett (Jets).
Beebe appears to not need surgery, according to sources of ESPN, but the Vikings are going to reevaluate the injury in a week to determine further steps, including whether he’ll be placed on injured reserve.
Treadwell, 24, was drafted 23rd overall in 2017, but was passed up by others on the depth chart and failed to grab hold of the No. 3 receiver position behind Thielen and Diggs the last couple seasons.
The Vikings cut him along with 36 other players upon finalizing the 53-man roster on Aug. 31. They were already on the hook for the guaranteed portion of Treadwell’s 2019 salary ($1.15 million) due to the fact that he hadn’t signed with another team after he was initially released, and were set to incure a total of $2,506,360 in dead cap money between the guarantees and proration of his $1.36 million signing bones.
