A pair of 5-1 teams who appear to be state championship contenders trending upward clash at Howard Wood Field today.
No. 2 Lincoln, fresh off a rousing 26-21 win over then-No. 1 Brandon Valley, hosts No. 3 Harrisburg, whose only loss was two weeks ago to current No. 1 Roosevelt 23-21.
KWSN, 98.1 FM, 1230-AM, KWSN.COM, and the FREE KWSN mobile app will carry the 5:00 game.
After the game, KWSN will carry other games involving area teams, including O’Gorman at Watertown.
Scores of games throughout the area will be updated throughout the games, and after they are over on KWSN’s ScoreCentral show. The MidcoSN Coaches Show will air from 9-10 a.m. Saturday morning.
No. 3 Roosevelt’s game at Rapid City Stevens is postponed until Monday evening due to a snowstorm that dumped nine inches of snow on the Rapid City area.
With a win, the balanced Patriots can clinch their first winning season since 2014 — when they won the second of back-to-back state titles. Third-year coach Jared Fredenburg has a tough, talented program whose growing pains appear to be over.
In their first year competing in Class 11AAA, the Tigers appear to be skipping the growing pains stage competing against the big boys, but there will still be opportunity in this three-game stretch to end the regular season, starting tonight, when they face the No. 2 Patriots, then host No. 4 Brandon Valley next week and visit No. 5 O’Gorman in the finale.
So, tonight starts the litmus test for the Tigers, who have successfully used a two-quarterback system but will be going against an experienced and stingy defense that shut down Brandon Valley’s defending state championship veteran offense last week.
