SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — He’s made some of the biggest field goals in NFL history, in playoff games and Super Bowls.
Now, national sports writers have named South Dakota State University alum and native South Dakotan Adam Vinatieri as one of the 100 greatest National Football League players of all time.
Vinatieri ranked 95th and is the only kicker on the list. He played for the New England Patriots and is currently with the indianapolils Colts. He won Super Bowls with both teams.
He’s also played with two of the greatest quarterbacks in history, Tom Brady (ranked #2 on the top 100 players of all-time list) and Peyton Manning (ranked #8).
Vinatieri’s accomplishments as noted by Wikipedia:
- He holds the NFL record for most Super Bowl wins by a kicker. He also holds NFL records, among all players, for most points scored (2,612), most postseason points scored (238), most field goals made (582), and most overtime field goals made (12). He is the only player ever to score 1,000 points with two teams. As of 2019, Vinatieri, 46, is the oldest active player in the NFL and 3rd oldest of all time.
He was born in Yankton and grew up in Rapid City. His sister Christine Erickson is a Sioux Falls City Councilor.
