South Dakota State fell two spots to No. 5 in the latest FCS Coaches Poll after Saturday’s 23-16 loss to No. 1 North Dakota State. The Jacks (6-2) only losses have been to the Bison and at current FBS No. 13 Minnesota 28-21.
The Bison (8-0) remain the unanimous No. 1, with all 26 first place votes, followed by No. 2 James Madison (8-1), No. 3 Weber State (6-2), and No. 4 Kennsaw State (7-1).
The North Dakota State cornerback whose interception help seal Saturday’s Dakota Marker win at South Dakota State is the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Junior Josh Hayes’ first career pick came with five minutes left at the 15-yard line stopped and kept the game tied at 16 and the Bison answered with a touchdown on the next drive to win 23-16.
Hayes finished with six tackles – all solos – and also had a pass breakup.
