SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — City Councilor Pat Starr made it three of four incumbents announcing they are running for reelection.
He told KELO.com News yesterday that he planned to announce today and Starr did.
Fellow incumbents Marshall Selberg and Greg Neitzert previously announced their intentions to run. As of 3 p.m., Starr had not filed paperwork with the City Clerk’s Office that he was running.
However, one name is missing from the four seats that are up in the April 14 election: Councilor Theresa Stehly.
In an email Monday to KELO.com News, Stehly says she hasn’t decided.
“I have not made a decision yet,” Stehly said. “I will be sure to inform you when I do!”
There was speculation on the Republican-leaning Dakota War College blog this weekend that Stehly wasn’t running for reelection because of her recent postings on her Facebook page.
Saturday she wrote on her page, “More lessons learned in my City Council experience: Our wonderful citizens are our GREATEST asset,” which was accompanied by photos during her nearly four years in office.
Petitions must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2020. The deadline to register to vote for the City/school board election is March 30, 2020.
Here’s how the races are shaping up:
- At Large: Stehly (incumbent); Alex Jensen has filed a statement of organization on the Clerk’s website.
- Northeast District: Starr (Incumbent); Starr is declared but not yet filed a statement of organization; No opponent so far.
- Southwest District: Selberg (Incumbent); Selberg has filed a statement of organization on the Clerk’s website; No opponent so far.
- Northwest District: Neitzert (Incumbent); Neitzert has filed a statement of organization on the Clerk’s website; Julian Beaudion has filed a statement of organization on the Clerk’s website.
