SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Residents of a southeast Sioux Falls neighborhood are speaking out against a rezoning proposal the city council is considering.
A small parcel of land near 69th Street would be rezoned from offices to townhomes, which are expected to be two stories tall. Homeowners aren’t happy.
“Just because it might look reasonable on a zoning map doesn’t necessarily mean it makes sense on the ground and in reality,” Tim Edmond told the council.
Still, the existing zoning on the spot allows for a two-story building, which Councilor Christine Erickson pointed out.
“We’re not really changing anything. If you have it be an office building, it can still be a two-story office building,” Erickson said.
Brady Hyde of Empire Homes, the company planning to build on the parcel, said he would be happy to meet with residents and discuss their concerns. The council is expected to make a final decision on March 3.
