SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Fire crews responded to an early morning fire Monday at an apartment complex at 57th and Marion in western Sioux Falls.
According to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, the call came in at about 2:30 Monday morning of a structure fire at 5119 S. Marion Road.
Fire personnel helped residents evacuate the apartment complex. An area in the community room was set up for displaced residents in apartment building 5101.
The fire was extinguished in 45 minutes. Crews remained on the scene for an additional two hours ensuring all hot spots were extinguished.
The fire was contained to the apartment of origin, however, the fire did rupture a water line in the wall, which caused significant damage to the apartments on the 1st and 2nd floor.
There were no injuries reported at this incident.
Fire Inspector Shannon Galbreath has concluded the investigation. The cause of the fire has been determined to come from a bathroom exhaust fan.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Early Monday morning Feb 24, 2020 at approximately 2:38 a.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 5119 S Marion Rd.
First arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the apartment complex. A second alarm was requested. Upon entry, fire crews encountered moderate smoke, conducted a quick search of the third floor, and found fire in the walls and attic space above apartment number 313. Fire personnel assisted residents in evacuating the structure. SFPD set up a refuge area in the community room for displaced residents in apartment building 5101.
Fire crews had the fire extinguished in 45 minutes. Crews remained on scene for an additional 2 hours to complete overhaul and ventilation operations, ensuring all hot spots had been extinguished and all the smoke was removed from the complex. There were no injuries reported at this incident.
The fire was contained to the apartment of origin, however, the fire did rupture a water line in the wall, which caused significant damage to the apartments on the 1st and 2nd floor.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 7 fire trucks, 3 support vehicles, and 29 firefighters. The apartment did have a sprinkler system. Fire Inspector Shannon Galbreath has concluded the investigation. The cause of the fire has been determined to come from a bathroom exhaust fan. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by Sioux Falls Police Department, Paramedics Plus Ambulance, XCEL Energy, Red Cross, and the apartment complex maintenance supervisor.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to test their smoke detectors monthly, and have a practiced escape plan in the event of an emergency.
