SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Things will be looking brighter in Sioux Falls very soon! The city-wide LED streetlight replacement program continues this year.
Starting on Monday, March 2, maintenance crews will begin the first substantial replacement in a neighborhood; the area is between USD Community College and Southeast Tech.
The program started in 2017 as an effort to decrease the City’s electricity consumption.
Light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights last four times as long and are, on average, 46 percent more efficient than traditional high-pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights, which offers substantial energy savings.
The City is replacing streetlights in a grid pattern on major arterial streets. In 2020, streetlights will be replaced from 41st Street to 12th Street. Crews will replace lights on 26th, 12th, and 33rd streets.
