SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — They won’t break any speed records, the guys slowly moving a big twin home across Sioux Falls on Thursday.
Allen Hof of Telkamp Moving in Brookings calls himself the orchestra leader for this challenging move from the central part of town to out on Marion Road.
Hof says it’s going to take from eight to ten hours.
“You know the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. It is not a matter of how fast we get there. It’s just a matter that we do get there.”
Hof says the big home is about 38 feet wide which will make for a tight squeeze on some of the roads in the early part of the route. And there will be many overhanging utility lines to worry about, as the building is about 28 feet high.
Eight to ten hours, slowly but surely, for a handful of miles just across town.
“Its not too many as the crow flies, but like I said, there’s a lot of obstacles in the way.”
The twin home at 33rd and Covell was slated to be demolished, but the city donated it for a new life as affordable housing.
Telkamp has been in business since the 1950s. Hof says this is far from their biggest job, so – slowly, but surely – they’ll get it done.
His team is expected to start the caravan around 7 a.m. Thursday. Don’t get behind them. As Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says you will get really angry real fast.
