SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — No wonder the big warehouse fire on Kiwanis Avenue belched out so much thick smoke that it could be seen from nearly everywhere in Sioux Falls.
City Emergency Manager Regan Smith says the warehouse was full of mattresses.
“The facility there is a mattress recycler, so when those mattresses go up they really go…”
Smith says the high winds on Thursday were an extra challenge blowing around the thick, smelly smoke.
He says he doesn’t know how many mattresses were in the warehouse – perhaps the owner will share that eventually – but it was a lot of mattresses.
