SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Authorities say one person was hospitalized following an early morning fire at a home in central Sioux Falls.
Crews received a report of a fire at 503 South Spring Avenue near 13th Street around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
When firefighters arrived, they found several people hanging from windows on the second floor, though no sign of the fire was visible from outside.
Crews searched the home to confirm no one else was inside. They found the fire in the stairwell and put it out in a few minutes.
One person was hospitalized with injuries from a fall.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: At 2:20 AM this morning Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews were dispatched for a structure fire. Metro communications reported that several occupants were trapped and the fire was confirmed. The dispatch was immediately upgraded to a second alarm which sent four more apparatus and 16 additional personnel. Fire arriving units had no signs of fire but did find occupants hanging from second-floor windows. The building was searched and no additional occupants were found inside. The fire was contained to an area in the stairwell and was extinguished within five minutes. One occupant was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital with injuries sustained in a fall. No responders were injured during the incident. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and the Sioux Falls Police Department are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with eight fire trucks and two support vehicles. South Dakota Air National Guard also sent one engine.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for proper functioning and practice home escape plans.
