HARTFORD, S.D. (KELO.com) — The West Central School District issued the following statement this morning concerning their school closure and cleaning.
At 7:30 am this morning, West Central School District administration met with county officials to discuss a district action plan in response to the report of a Hartford resident with school-age children testing positive for COVID-19. The adult male identified has not been on district property within the last week.
In consultation with the CDC, South Dakota Department of Health, the Governor’s Office, and local officials, an action plan has been developed to mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19. The district has initiated steps to deep clean all school buildings and sources of transportation. All district buildings are closed and all activities are canceled for today. This includes outside groups who have reserved facility space for Community Education and/or practices.

HARTFORD, S.D. (KELO.com) –The West Central School District will be closed Wednesday so each school in the district will undergo a deep cleaning, according to a Facebook post.
The post states a man with children in the district was diagnosed with COVID-19. The state of South Dakota reported its first confirmed cases on Tuesday, including one death.
This is the Facebook post on West Central HS Community Support home page:
“An adult male in Hartford who has students @ West Central has been diagnosed with the Coronavirus. West Central Schools will be closed Wednesday, March 11. All schools will undergo a deep cleaning. Families will be updated tomorrow as to when schools will reopen. Please do not send sick children to school.”
They plan to update families on Wednesday about when schools will reopen.
