SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken has a strong message for businesses about their responsibility during the coronavirus pandemic.
The mayor gave an update on the city’s coronavirus response Wednesday night on Facebook Live. He said while the city does not have the power to shut down private businesses, he will do everything he can to make sure businesses are doing their part to slow the spread of the virus.
“If you are continuing to do business as normal, and you continue to allow large groups of people into your business, whatever that establishment looks like, you potentially are holding peoples’ lives in your hand,” TenHaken said.
TenHaken called proper social distancing practices “critical” for any business in the city. He said he thought one open house event Wednesday night from an unnamed business was “a dumb idea.”
Sioux Falls enacted an ordinance Tuesday restricting gatherings at city-owned facilities to 10 people or fewer.
